The Suns Are Banking on Beal

Summer has just begun and the NBA is already cookin’ and stirring the pot ahead of the 2023-24 season. Kicking off the trade headlines, post-NBA Finals,  are the Phoenix Suns. This past Sunday, news broke that the Suns acquired new All-Star guard, Bradley Beal, via a trade with the Washington Wizards. In return, the Suns sent two guards, Chris Paul, and Landry Shamet, in addition to four second-round picks and multiple pick swaps. Beal was no cheap target needless to say. The Suns will now be taking on the final four years of his contract, priced at $207 million.

Well before the post-season, Beal knew moves were going to be made. Whether it would be with Miami, Milwaukee, or Sacramento, the trade deadline was looming. Ultimately, his personal decision to land in Phoenix was made, and those negotiations began early on. For the Wizards, moving Beal would relieve some of their spendings, saving them a total of $161 million in cap space.

Suns fans can now look forward to their new big three, Beal, Durant, and Booker, to bring them closer to the basketball-promised land. While “superteams” have disappointed fans and their expectations in the past, this could get scary out in the West this coming season. We shall see if Beal was worth the price tag.
