On October 30, 2002, a legend’s life was snatched from the Hip Hop community.
Jason William Mizell, better known as Jam Master Jay, was shot and killed at a recording studio in Jamaica, Queens at the age of thirty-seven.
At the time there were no arrests made for his murder, but eighteen years later the case has been re-opened. The two suspects, Karl Jordan Jr. and Ronald Washington, have been charged in the killing in retaliation for a drug dispute.
Jam Master Jay, along with Run (Joseph Simmons) and DMC (Darryl McDaniels) joined forces to create the iconic rap trio Run-DMC.
The trio became the first Hip-Hop group to obtain mainstream music success.
The DJ was murdered shortly after the release of the 2001 album release, “Crown Royal”. Run-DMC was inducted into the Rock and Roll of Fame in 2009.
After 18 years, Jam Master Jay’s family and friends may finally receive justice.
