The Academy of Motion Picture has officially issued their punishment for Will Smith slapping comedian Chris Rock after the latter made a joke about Smith’s wife Jada Pinkett-Smith at the 2022 Academy Awards.
According to reports, Will Smith has been from all Academy Award events for the next ten years.
Smith responded in the form of statement, accepting the decision though he had already resigned and issued a public apology to Rock.
“I accept and respect the Academy’s decision.”
So far, there has a mixed response to the ban with many questioning the Academy’s failure to take action against a number of filmmakers, producers, and actors who have been accused of far more egregious acts including child molestation and sexual assault.
